Missionary-Sister McCurdy, ex-Missionary-Sister Lee, ex-Missionary-Sister Liew, Missionary-Sister Clark and Missionary Sister Russell

Why is it so hard to get a picture together? I think this is the only picture that the 4 of us took together. Maybe we should have gone to the photo studio????? Anyway I like this picture of us.

72-Hour Emergency Kit

Sunday, 5 October 2008

I didn't bother about it when Yean said we need to have our 72-hour emergency kit ready by October something. I didn't pay attention either to the date he mentioned until the branch presidency gathered the Priesthood and the Relief Society after today's sacrament meeting. Branch President Renner reminded members that it was now several weeks since he first said to prepare and he would not remind them again. Members will receive calls to assemble at the church before the week is over, and to treat it as real emergency situation. He wouldn't say what day. The parable of the 10 virgins was brought up.

Friday, 10 October 2008

We have prepared. Yean and I packed most of the things by Tuesday 8 October and completed today. I know I should have the kit ready, to grab and go anytime, by Monday because natural disasters have no respect to time.

Putting my thinking cap as a leader, I think our leaders wanted to instill the sense of importance in this matter, to be prepared all the time, as counselled by our Prophets. Flash floods are common in Malaysia and floods that last for a few days have happened in the past and it would happen again - catching us unexpectedly.

Saturday, 11 October 2008

Yean's cellphone vibrated at around 1 something in the afternoon. We got to the church about 2 pm. Traffic is bad in Kuala Lumpur and I guess maybe it is like that on a Saturday afternoon.

If it was a real situation and it was flooding, there is no way we would be able to get out of this apartment! We might have to climb to the roof!

At the church - making yourself at home with the 72-hour emergency kit

It was only a branch activity!

Silent Night Holy Night

Saturday, 23 December 2006

We couldn't attend the Miri branch Christmas party.
We didn't attend the KL branch Christmas party.
We ended up helping the PJ branch with their Christmas show at a local mall, Friday and Saturday evening.

Friday, I sang duet with Lian "Silent Night" but come Saturday I decided to withdraw. The microphone could not project my 'soft' voice!

Lian did a good job. She strummed her guitar and sang solo "Silent Night" and she also sang "What Child is this? by herself again Saturday.

We enjoyed singing with the choir at the end of the show.

Visiting Teaching Conference

Sunday, 10 December 2006

What a good idea! I am impressed! I am so thankful I am here this Sunday to be in this conference. There were 36 of us in the Relief Society room. The priesthood brothers helped to take care of the other classes so that all the Sisters could attend.

Each sister was given a blank pink heart-shaped card to write down what she could do for the Sisters she visit-teach. These cards are then sticked/filled up the original naked tree.

It is definitely concern and love for your fellow sister members. Every woman needs a girlfriend she could turn to and confide in.

Thanks to the Relief Society presidency and the rock buns that Sister Jenny baked!

Kuala Lumpur Branch - Talent Night

25 November 2005
It is Kuala Lumpur Branch Talent Show! I am so happy that I was able to be there to see the singers, composer, musicians, artist, magician, dancers, actors and guitarist in action.

The following are some of the pictures taken. They are not arranged in their order of performance. Starting from left to the right (first row), then left to the right (second row) and so forth:

(1) Brother Rodney - MC & singer
(2) Sister Naomi singing while daddy plays the organ
(3) The musical Chong Family (Brother Chong playing the organ, Sister Chong sings while the
Chong boys played the clarinet, trombone, maraca and the triangle)
(4) Sister Chong singing while son plays
(5) She sings a song she composed herself
(6) Young magician
(7) Brother Solomon singing an African song
(8) Young artist drawing what you describe, especially actions
(9) Relief Society dancing
(10) Single Adults - what are they looking at? What is up there? After a few minutes to the suspense of the audience, the first person who started the curiosity followers exclaimed "my neck is broken"
(11) Last but no least, my daughter, Lian, strumming on her guitar while Brother Royce stand at the pulpit. Both were singing "I am a child of God". Brother Felix was holding the mircophone to amplify the music from the guitar.

Another talent - table manners!!

Sigh! Should have taken a picture of the facial and verbal expressions of the the audience watching Brother Felix sucking noodles through his nose and trying to pull it out from his mouth. We were all "oh dear" "my goodness" "yeeeeeee" "yak" "good gracious" - with whatever mode of exclamation and expression of disguise and disbelief at what we were seeing. One sister could not bear to look either.
