3rd of the 4 postings on our visiting to the National Zoo on this day.

To the Apes Centre......


It is so interesting to watch them.....


Orang Utan (direct translation - Forest People) - these great apes are native to Malaysia. They stretched out their hands to you if they see you have something to offer to them.

The toilet is not part of the insection building, but it is also painted to the colour of a ladybird.

Reinwardt's Flying Frog: Amazingly how the picture turned out to be, showing clearly the frog, which looked to me having the same green colour as the leave. I didn't see it until the caretaker highlighted to me. The caretaker happened to be be attending to the case and he stopped me from reaching my hand towards the frog. The caretaker said that the frogs (there were others) in the case and they don't react when he is attending to the case - very interesting - they know him. The caretaker said that the frog would jump away if I reached out towards him and would shoot poison from its skin if I touch it.


This fellow was not in the exhibition building. A visitor pointed to us its presence. It was hanging from the the roof outside a window of the building! This bat does not belong to the zoo. It is free to fly anywhere.


Watching the giraffes and the camel - aren't they funny? I love Anges' smile.

This was the 1st part of birthday surprise for me - visiting the Zoo Negara (National Zoo). I love watching animals because they are unique and interesting. I am uploading the pictures in 4 postings. I don't know how to do slides. I prefer this way (even though it is slow) because next time I can look back and read what I have written w.r.t. the pictures.

Glad it was not a hot nor a wet day. The clouds was a blessing. Entrance fees was MR20 for adults. Zoo guide is MR2 if you want it.




We saved the Sentries' work in putting the wrist ticket-labels ourselves.


Looking at the Siamang (gibbon). Interestingly to learn that singing calms them. And that pairs sing in duet to mark their territory and their singing may last for 15 minutes! Their 'singing' was definitely loud.



The rabbits were feeding on kangkung. Poor rabbits - their furs did not look healthy to me.

To see the Nile Hippopotamus. I just love them - they know how to pose for the camera!



At the aquarium section....... The fish is as big as Lyanne's arm!


Can't remember what they called it. I called it sucker fish because they sucks up the dirt in the fish tank.

It is always fun to watch animals performing- clever seal.


Bees Section......... hives in a rope. The Label said these bees (Dorsata Cerana Trigone) are kept by ancient people who made artificial hives out of rope for the bees to live in.


And these Yellow Jackets (wasps) have the second deadly sting of all bees and the sting can cause heart attack.

I have not heard of the restaurant before nor remembered ever having Ipoh Chicken Rice. I might have many years ago when visiting Ipoh. Anyway when Annie asked if I would be in town this day and that she wanted to treat us to this restaurant in Petaling Jaya, I was excited as well as doubtful. Annie said it was very nice but it might not be my"nice", but that was okay because importantly was visiting with each other.

Food was definitely good! Atmosphere was good. Service was good. Ground floor was already packed when we arrived and we got to sit in the spacious 1st floor hall. Parking could be a problem for clients but we were lucky to find places to park our cars.

I didn't take pictures of the food because I am more to remembering the company instead, so here are the pictures of us.

Both Lian & Yean have been here before. I haven't, so here we are. The price has increased, since their last visit. It is now MR21.80 for adult and MR12.00.

I wondered if the restaurant in Miri Boulevard Center still do the same thing. I like this restaurant (Restaurant Talipon, old Klang road) better because there are more food to choose from. You have the choice of grilling your own prawns, fish, chicken, pork, lamb, squid, etc. etc. or you can eat the cooked meat (it was sesame chicken when we were there, looked like they only have 1 kind of meat that is cooked) from a table with other cooked food, like shark fin's soup, fried rice, fried noodles, fried wonton.

Problem with buffet meal is that one has a tendency to eat too much. Personally, I prefer to be served with properly cooked food.

You can take any amount of butter (which come in tiny tiny bowls) for grilling. Yean took 3 bowls for the 3 of us. I thought they were cup-cakes because they looked like yellow cup-cakes. I was thinking that they must be special cup-cakes otherwise why is Yean taking them!

Not sure about grilling meat on the hot plate. My fear is that the meat might not be properly cooked. And the continual use of butter so that the plate would be kept oiled.

I grilled 2 small promfets and probably 6 big prawns only. I prefered the steamboat, which is in the middle of the whole plate. You can put any food into the steamboat bowl to boil - stuffed beancurd, fish balls, meat balls, dried beancurd sheets, mushrooms, clams, whole shelled eggs, different kinds of vegetables, etc. etc.

Lian, with her arm cover, just in case the melted butter 'jump' out.


Yean is digging out some butter from his tiny cup, to oil the hot plate.

For dessert, there are choices of fresh fruits (water-melon, rambutan, mangosteen, etc.), ice-cream, jelly and I don't know what else because I didn't really look at them.

Ice-kacang/cendol is another option for dessert. After the heat from the grilling, ice-kacang/cendol sounds great. I asked Lian to create her version. It was nice. Among all the ingredients inside this dessert, I liked the kidney beans best.

It was a meeting we have agreed upon! I told myself I have to come, even if I don't feel well. And I wasn't in the best of health this day. Maybe that was a test to see if I really would do what I had told myself. It is not easy to get classmates together.

Where would you park your car? This picture was taken about 8:30 am on a Saturday morning. It is a common sight to see cars parking in the "No Parking Zone" and on both sides of the road. There are too many cars and not enough parking lots. People come back in the middle of the night and in the weird hours of the morning. They parked their cars there because there are no more parking space close to their apartments. They do move away but only towards lunch hour.
